beef up 加强


When we beef something up, we make something stronger or more effective. beef牛肉，beef up中beef作动词，表示加强（力量）。为什么会有这种联想呢？牛肉在西方人眼里可以使身体更为强壮，beef up从而引申为在某些方面加强力量，提供支持。
