White collars in China have difficulty moving up and joining the middle class due to many barriers, the China Youth Daily reported. Soaring housing prices in recent years are smashing many young people`s dream of living a middle class life. If they don’t buy houses, they cannot settle down in cities; if they do, they become “house slaves.” In addition, many white-collar workers are suffering from career pressures and health problems.
----- A recent survey in shanghai show more than 70% of the white collar workers there are in a state of poor health. About 38% have neck and waist problems and 32% have digestion problems. Also, 22% suffer from insomnia and depression.
